Enzo Maresca has responded to growing talk of Chelsea being genuine Premier League title contenders, following their hard-fought 2-1 win over Brentford on Sunday. Despite the victory lifting the Blues to second place, just two points behind leaders Liverpool, the Chelsea head coach played down any talk of a title challenge, insisting his team is still a work in progress.

The win over Brentford extended Chelsea’s impressive six-match unbeaten run across all competitions, a dramatic turnaround after a tough start to the season. With Chelsea now sitting just behind Liverpool and having played one more game, they could move to the top of the table if they beat Everton next weekend. Liverpool, in the meantime, will face Spurs hours later, creating a potential opportunity for the Blues to take the lead.

Despite Chelsea’s recent resurgence and impressive form, Maresca was quick to downplay expectations of a title push. While many had initially written off Chelsea as unlikely contenders this season, including data analysts and pundits, the manager’s tactical changes and the squad’s improved cohesion have propelled them up the standings. However, Maresca remains cautious and emphasized that his team is still developing, urging fans not to get ahead of themselves.
