Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has officially extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2025/2026 season, with an option for an additional year. After months of speculation surrounding his future, Castillo has put an end to the rumours, confirming he will remain with Amakhosi for at least another season.

A reliable source revealed:
“Edson (Castillo) is staying for another season, he’s renewed his contract, and there’s an option for another year. He’s also returning to the team soon—he’s back in training and should be ready to feature before the end of the month, gradually building up his match fitness. So, there’s no talk of him leaving—it’s all settled for now.”

Injury Recovery Nearing Completion

The Venezuelan midfielder has been out of action since October after fracturing his fibula in a match against SuperSport United. Initially expected to be sidelined for four to five months, Castillo has now resumed training and is on track to return by the end of February. So far, the 30-year-old has missed 15 matches, leaving a noticeable void in Chiefs’ midfield. His return will provide a major boost to the squad as they look to strengthen their push for a better league finish.

Ditlhokwe’s Departure Confirmed

In other news, Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the departure of defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to Libyan side Al-Ittihad. The club confirmed the transfer on their official website, stating Ditlhokwe will head to Tripoli this weekend. His final appearance for Chiefs was in their 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch.

Ditlhokwe joined Amakhosi on a free transfer from SuperSport United 18 months ago, but his time with the club has been mixed. Now, he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

What’s Next for Chiefs?

With Castillo’s contract renewal and imminent return, Kaizer Chiefs fans have a reason for optimism. His presence in midfield could be just what the team needs to strengthen their campaign. Meanwhile, Ditlhokwe’s departure leaves a gap in defense, which may lead to new signings or tactical changes.
