Kaizer Chiefs have secured Edson Castillo for another season with the option for a further year, officially putting an end to rumors about his potential departure.

Castillo’s agent, Mauricio Andrade, confirmed the news to iDiski Times, easing concerns about the star midfielder’s future. The Venezuelan international, whose contract was set to expire in June, can now focus on returning to action without the distraction of contract talks.

The midfielder has been sidelined since suffering a severe fibula injury in October 2024 during a match against SuperSport United. Since then, Castillo has missed the last 16 competitive games for Amakhosi. However, he’s making good progress on his recovery and could soon be available for coach Nasreddine Nabi’s squad, depending on his fitness.

His return will be a major boost for Chiefs, especially as the midfield has struggled with consistency. With just 12 league games left in the season, Castillo will be hoping to make a significant impact as Chiefs push for a top-four finish and a potential CAF spot. Currently, they sit sixth in the Betway Premiership standings, with 25 points from 18 matches.

Chiefs’ next challenge will be an away match against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, March 1, at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with a 15:30 kick-off.

“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” said Andrade. “Edson is very happy with his extension, as it was his desire to remain at the club for the coming years. He is committed to helping the team win trophies.”
