CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe is excited about the potential return of Kaizer Chiefs to Africa’s prestigious inter-club competitions.
Kaizer Chiefs could be back in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, with two possible paths to qualify. The first is by defeating Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup. The second is for Chiefs to rely on Pirates finishing second in the Betway Premiership standings.
Speaking to the media in Sandton, Motsepe emphasized that South African football is incomplete without a strong and successful Kaizer Chiefs team. Chiefs’ last appearance in continental football was in 2021 when they achieved an impressive feat by reaching the CAF Champions League final, though they were defeated 3-0 by Al Ahly, much to the disappointment of their supporters.
Motsepe praised the contributions of Chiefs, stating, “I am happy Kaizer Chiefs are back in the CAF Confederation Cup. You can’t have South African football without a successful Kaizer Chiefs.”
While acknowledging the efforts of other teams like Lamontville Golden Arrows and AmaZulu FC, Motsepe expressed immense pride in the achievements of the Motaung family and their impact on the club’s legacy.
