Mamelodi Sundowns fans are starting to worry after coach Miguel Cardoso hinted that Lucas Ribeiro might not stay with the club for long. The Brazilian midfielder has been in outstanding form this season, racking up 10 goals and 9 assists in 26 appearances. Cardoso expressed hope that Sundowns would be able to retain Ribeiro, but also acknowledged that the 26-year-old’s future could be uncertain.
Cardoso said, “When I first arrived, I spoke to Lucas, who was already in great form, and I told him that thereβs always room to improve. He needs to have ambition and continue developing himself every day. We focus a lot on the mindset of our players. With commitment, hard work, and a strong will to improve, Lucas can go far. We want to make the most of his talents while we can, but we hope the club can keep him for a long time because heβs a crucial player for us.”
Teammate Ronwen Williams also praised Ribeiroβs abilities, especially after his impressive performances in recent matches against SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates. “He’s a special player, a special talent,” Williams said. “He brings that Brazilian flair and has a willingness to learn. The coach and we as teammates always push him to improve, especially on the counter-press, and heβs been showing great progress in that area. Itβs been amazing to watch him settle in, stay humble, and perform consistently since joining. Heβs been outstanding in every game.”
