Kaizer Chiefs experienced a heavy 4-1 defeat to SuperSport United on Tuesday night at FNB Stadium, ending a brief unbeaten run that had seen them avoid defeat in their previous three matches.
Before this loss, Chiefs had narrowly fallen to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby, losing 1-0 due to a controversial last-minute penalty. They then played a 2-2 draw against AmaZulu, followed by a 2-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in the league. Over the weekend, they triumphed 3-0 over Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup round of 16.
Bvuma Steps Up as Chiefs’ Number One Goalkeeper
Amid these results, there had been some stability at Chiefs, with new January signings Tashreeq Morris, Glody Lilepo, and Thabo Cele gradually settling into the starting lineup. One of the key developments has been in goal, where Bruce Bvuma has now been given a consistent role. Despite facing competition for the goalkeeper spot, Bvuma’s performances have been solid, and his consistency is earning him praise.
According to Soccer-Laduma, Bvuma’s current form may lead to a call-up for Bafana Bafana in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. “Bvuma has been given the opportunity to prove himself and is doing well, positioning himself for a call-up next month,” the publication reported.
Bvuma, who had previously been in and out of the Chiefs lineup, was initially part of Hugo Broos’ squad, but lost his place to other goalkeepers like Veli Mothwa and Ricardo Goss. However, the situation has shifted. With Orlando Pirates’ Sipho Chaine now second-choice for the national team, Bvuma is expected to rejoin the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.
