Bafana Bafana is edging closer to World Cup qualification, but there’s still work to be done.
Coach Hugo Broos’ team currently sits in second place in Group C, tied on points with leaders Rwanda and Benin. Along with Nigeria, who are trailing behind, these teams have the potential to disrupt South Africa’s World Cup ambitions.
Since their automatic qualification for the 2010 World Cup, South Africa has missed out on soccer’s biggest stage, last appearing in 2002. However, the talent within the Bafana squad is far superior to what it was four years ago, making this their best shot at qualifying in over two decades.

Broos on Mofokeng
Relebohile Mofokeng, an exciting young talent from Orlando Pirates, is one of Bafana’s most promising players, known for his ability to create chances from all areas of the pitch.
Coach Broos believes Mofokeng is likely to leave South Africa after this season. He shared his concerns, saying, “I just hope that he makes the right decisions and doesn’t go to a team where he won’t play. I see rumors about Barcelona and Rangers… (sighs) I’m a bit worried. I hope those around him choose what’s best for his career, not just financial gain.”
Broos added, “I know his parents want the best for him, but there are others who may prioritize money. Hopefully, I’m speaking too soon, and we’ll see what happens. I think by June, Rele will no longer be with Orlando Pirates, but making the right choice is crucial.”
