Kylian Mbappé has been at the center of attention in 2024 following a whirlwind year that included leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Real Madrid, underperforming at the European Championship, and reportedly clashing with France’s head coach Didier Deschamps. The 25-year-old World Cup winner has now addressed the speculation surrounding his absence from recent French national team matches.

Mbappé, who captained France to the semi-finals of Euro 2024 before losing to Spain, faced criticism for his single goal during the tournament. While he participated in the UEFA Nations League in September, he was notably absent in October and November.

In a recent interview with Canal+, Mbappé explained his absence. “In September, I asked the coach not to call me up. I had just moved to Madrid after a very short break, and I wasn’t in the right condition. The coach insisted, but it didn’t go well,” he shared. He also clarified that his October absence was due to injury, but he remains uncertain about being overlooked in November. “It’s the coach’s decision. I respect that. He’s the boss. I wanted to play, but I don’t know why I wasn’t called up,” Mbappé said.

Despite these challenges, Mbappé remains a cornerstone for Les Bleus, boasting 48 goals in 86 appearances—a tally surpassed only by Olivier Giroud and Thierry Henry.

Reflecting on his move to Real Madrid, Mbappé revealed he nearly stayed at PSG to support his younger brother, Ethan, who left PSG to join Lille. Ultimately, Mbappé signed with Real Madrid on a free transfer, marking a significant new chapter in his illustrious career.

Having played pivotal roles in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph and the dramatic 2022 final in Qatar, Mbappé’s journey continues to captivate fans worldwide.
