Kaizer Chiefs have been urged by football experts, including former players, that signing Bafana Bafana winger Oswin Appollis in January won’t be enough to fix the club’s struggles. While Appollis, currently with Polokwane City, is highly sought after in the transfer market and could make a big move to the Soweto giants next month, former player and analyst Katlego Mphela has warned that more than one addition is needed to turn the team’s fortunes around.
Appollis is regarded as a talented player who can certainly enhance Chiefs’ squad, but Mphela stressed that a single player won’t be the solution to the club’s ongoing issues. “He is a good player and can improve the team, but to change the team’s fortunes they don’t just need one player,” Mphela said in an interview with Soccer Laduma.

He highlighted that past signings, such as Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly, didn’t lead to significant improvement for the club. Despite their arrival, Chiefs have continued to struggle with consistency and team performance, and Mphela emphasized the need for collective effort and more strategic additions to change the team’s direction.
This statement comes as Chiefs continue to look for ways to improve their squad ahead of the second half of the season. With a new player like Appollis potentially joining, the team’s management and head coach Nasreddine Nabi will need to focus on building a more cohesive and balanced squad to achieve the success they are aiming for.
