The 2024/2025 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season has already seen significant coaching changes, with several managers leaving their posts early into the campaign. Despite teams having played double-digit matches, Richards Bay FC recently made their second coaching change of the season, firing Brandon Truter after a string of poor results. This follows the pre-season dismissal of Vusumuzi Vilakazi. Briefly News takes a closer look at the coaches who have left their PSL clubs since the season began in September 2024.

Richards Bay’s decision to part ways with Truter comes after he failed to deliver positive results, leaving the team at the bottom of the PSL standings after nine matches. Truter had just begun his second stint with the club, following the dismissal of Vilakazi at the start of the season. Vilakazi had managed to keep Richards Bay in the PSL by saving them from relegation via the playoffs, but it wasn’t enough to secure his long-term future with the club. Since his departure, Vilakazi has joined AmaZulu FC as co-coach alongside former Kaizer Chiefs manager, Arthur Zwane.

Sead Ramovic also made headlines by leaving TS Galaxy in early November 2024 after just six matches into the season. Ramovic was later hired by Tanzanian club Young Africans, having previously left the PSL for a brief move to Raja Athletic, which ultimately fell through.

AmaZulu FC also saw a coaching change, with Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin being replaced by Vilakazi and Zwane. Martin’s dismissal came after the club lost their first three matches of the season, and he expressed disappointment, saying he wanted more time at the helm.

Peter Hyballa and Dylan Kerr had short stints in the PSL, both exiting before the season even kicked off. Hyballa was replaced at Sekhukhune United by Lehlohonolo Seema, while Kerr parted ways with Marumo Gallants after internal disagreements with the management.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has his sights set beyond South Africa, having reportedly interviewed with several Major League Soccer (MLS) teams as he looks to take his coaching career overseas.
