Kaizer Chiefs’ signing of goalkeeper Jean-Claude Ntwari has sparked mixed reactions, with former player William Shongwe offering his analysis of the Rwandan international’s abilities. While acknowledging Ntwari’s credentials, including his role in the national team, Shongwe pointed out areas where the shot-stopper could improve.

“Chiefs made a good choice in signing Ntwari. He’s playing for his national team, which speaks to his capability,” Shongwe told FARPost. “However, if I were to critique him, it would be on his attributes as a goalkeeper.”

Shongwe highlighted specific areas of concern, noting that Ntwari’s decision-making, ball distribution, and shot-stopping need refinement. “His saving and decision-making aren’t at the highest level, and his ball distribution could be sharper. He doesn’t yet have the quality of someone like Itumeleng Khune,” Shongwe added, clarifying that he wasn’t making a direct comparison between the two goalkeepers.

“For me, those are the aspects he needs to focus on improving. With time and the right guidance, he can reach a higher standard,” Shongwe concluded.

Ntwari’s move to Chiefs has placed him under scrutiny, but his potential to grow into a key player for the club remains a talking point as he adjusts to the demands of South African football.
