Sekhukhune United midfielder Pogiso Mahlangu has expressed admiration for club owners, the Malatji brothers, commending their ambition and commitment to growing the team to match the level of South Africa’s “Big Three” football clubs. Mahlangu highlighted how the Malatji brothers have not only invested financially in Sekhukhune United but have also shown a deep passion and dedication to building a competitive and successful squad. The team, still relatively young in South African football, has seen significant growth under the Malatjis’ leadership, making strides in both the domestic league and continental competitions.

The Malatji family took charge after acquiring the status of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and began their journey in the first division during the 2020/21 season. Just a year later, they gained promotion to the DStv Premiership, where they achieved an impressive 11th-place finish in their debut season. Their run to the Nedbank Cup final, where they narrowly lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates, also secured them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, an accomplishment they achieved again by finishing fourth in the league last season. According to Mahlangu, this trajectory reflects the Malatjis’ ambitions and drive to see Babina Noko reach the same heights as established clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates.
Despite challenges, including the early resignation of new coach Peter Hyballa at the start of the season, Sekhukhune has shown resilience. With the return of Lehlohonolo Seema as head coach, supported by Kaitano Tembo and MacDonald Makhubedu taking on a Director of Football role, the team continues to progress under strong leadership. Mahlangu believes the Malatjis’ unwavering dedication is fueling the club’s rise and positioning them to become a powerhouse in South African football in the coming years.
