Kaizer Chiefs just missed out on qualifying for the MTN8 Cup after the final day of the season, with Richards Bay overtaking them to claim eighth place. Richards Bay made a strong statement by beating SuperSport United convincingly, while AmaKhosi’s match against Polokwane City ended in a 0-0 draw.
With the transfer window opening soon, head coach Nasreddine Nabi is determined to strengthen the squad before the start of the 2025/26 season.
“Yesterday, we had discussions with management and the Chairman, and we’re clear on what the team needs in terms of new players,” Nabi shared.
“I can’t specify how many or what type just yet, but our recruitment team is working hard. Everyone understands the team’s requirements, and talks have already begun.
“When we get the right additions, we’re confident the team will make significant progress.”
What’s the situation with George Matlou at Kaizer Chiefs?
With his contract expiring on June 30 and no extension talks underway, Matlou’s future at Chiefs is uncertain, though there’s still a glimmer of hope.
Unlike some players, Nabi hasn’t directly told Matlou to look for another club, which hints that the coaching staff is still weighing their options about keeping the talented former Swallows player.
For now, Matlou is putting his trust in a higher power.
“My contract is ending soon, but I’m leaving it in God’s hands,” Matlou told reporters. “I grew up in church, so I’m giving everything to God and, of course, to the technical team, the board, and staff who might give me another chance. But it’s football, and I’m not planning too far ahead right now.”
