Orlando Pirates are currently in discussions with Spanish coach Pablo Franco Martin as they explore their options for a new head coach ahead of the upcoming season.

Franco Martin, who had a short but memorable stint with AmaZulu FC during the 2023/2024 Premiership season, left the club in September. He then moved to Saudi Arabia to manage second-division team Al-Faisaly.

Despite being offered a lucrative contract extension and a pay increase at Al-Faisaly, Martin chose to decline and step away. This decision has sparked renewed interest from South African clubs.

Sources reveal that the 43-year-old coach is already in talks with the Buccaneers.

β€œThere have been conversations between Pablo Franco Martin and Orlando Pirates. An offer has been put forward, though he is not the only candidate being considered. He is very eager about the Pirates opportunity and has since parted ways with his Saudi club.”

Orlando Pirates are eager to strengthen their coaching staff, aiming to build a strong technical team. The club, known for its ambition and commitment to excellence both locally and in Africa, is carefully reviewing several options to find the right leader to push for major trophies next season.

If Franco Martin takes the job, it would be a significant and hopeful return to South African football, marking an exciting new chapter for the Soweto giants following the departure of Jose Riveiro.
