South African coach Rulani Mokwena is reportedly close to taking on a new challenge with Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek.
The 38-year-old recently ended his stint at Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca after just one season. Although Wydad finished third in the Botola Pro League, a tough midseason slump derailed their title hopes. A run of seven straight draws ultimately cost Mokwena his job.
Mokwena parted ways with Wydad shortly after the season concluded, having already missed the last three matches on the sidelines.
Now, fresh off that chapter, the former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach appears set to join Zamalek, one of Egyptβs biggest clubs. According to Radio Mars, the South African has received an offer to lead the team in the coming period.
This move follows Wydadβs official announcement of their mutual contract termination with Mokwena, citing unmet expectations from fans.
Meanwhile, Mokwena was also linked with a return to Orlando Pirates after their split with Jose Riveiro. However, many Pirates supporters expressed a preference for experienced coach Pitso Mosimane, who has been available since leaving his role in Iran earlier this year.
