After a frustrating and unproductive previous transfer window, Orlando Pirates aren’t wasting any time preparing for the new season. The Buccaneers are determined to avoid a repeat of last year’s disappointment — where they failed to secure key targets like Oswin Appollis and Fawaaz Basadien despite lengthy talks.
This time around, the club seems to be moving with purpose. According to reports, Pirates have already secured five new signings, including Sihle Nduli and Sinoxolo Kwayiba, as they look to strengthen their squad early before the transfer race intensifies.
Buzz Around Mayfair: Who’s In, Who’s Out?
While some deals are progressing, others might not go the Sea Robbers’ way:
- Aziz Ki, a top target from Young Africans, is now believed to be on the verge of signing with Wydad Athletic, leaving Pirates out of the picture.
- Fiston Mayele, another long-linked name, is likely staying put. Pyramids FC have offered him a two-year contract extension, and the 30-year-old striker reportedly isn’t keen on a move to South Africa at this stage.
Incoming: Masindi Nemtajela Joins Pirates
There is good news, though. Marumo Gallants winger Masindi Nemtajela is believed to have signed for Pirates, adding attacking depth to their squad.
Vuyo Letlapa Saga: France Calling
One of Pirates’ top targets, Sekhukhune United’s Vuyo Letlapa, may be slipping through their fingers. OGC Nice from France’s Ligue 1 have reportedly tabled a R20 million offer, and are now leading the race to sign the highly-rated defender.
Sources suggest that the French club is close to finalizing the deal, and just like with Elias Mokwana’s move to Esperance de Tunis, Sekhukhune are pushing for a 30% sell-on clause in any future transfer.
“Pirates were seen as front-runners for Letlapa, but OGC Nice are now leading,” reported Soccer Laduma. “Sekhukhune United want around R20 million and are including the 30% clause if he’s sold again.”
