Orlando Pirates have made sure to secure one of their most reliable defenders for the future by triggering the two-year extension in Nkosinathi Sibisiβs contract. This move strengthens their defense as they look ahead to the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership season, according to FARPost.
Sibisi Stays as Pirates Look to Build for the Future
Since joining the Buccaneers from Golden Arrows in 2022, Sibisi has quickly become a key figure in the Piratesβ defense. His contract was initially set to end in June 2025, but the club has acted swiftly to extend his stay, ensuring his vital presence in their backline for another two years.
Sibisiβs consistency has been evident this season, as he featured in 39 matches across all competitions, contributing two goals in the league. Despite the team’s struggles with injuries, particularly in defense, Sibisi remained a steady force, partnering with four different defenders during the campaign.
A Pillar of Stability and Success at Pirates
Sibisiβs influence at the club has been undeniable, helping the team secure three consecutive MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies. His leadership and performances have earned him a place as one of the teamβs most dependable players, particularly under former coach Jose Riveiro.
Riveiro, who guided Pirates to a strong domestic run, has since departed for Al Ahly in North Africa, opting to leave early from his contract, which was set to expire in June.
A New Era at Mayfair: Pirates Preparing for Change
With Riveiroβs exit, Pirates are ready for a new chapter. The club is preparing for significant changes and has reportedly already lined up several new signings to strengthen their squad. Among the expected arrivals are defender Nkosikhona Ndaba from Richards Bay FC, midfielder Masindi Nemtajela from Marumo Gallants, attacking midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba from Chippa United, winger Kabelo Kgositsile, and right-back Tshepo Mashiloane from Baroka FC. Additionally, midfielder Sihle Nduli from Stellenbosch FC is also rumored to be joining soon.
