However, Stellenbosch were not willing to part ways with their star man, who is viewed as a cornerstone of their project. According to inside sources, Chiefs are keeping tabs on 25-year-old Nkanyiso Shinga, currently playing in Portugal for FC Alverca. Shinga’s club recently secured promotion to the top tier, making it more difficult to lure him away. However, with his contract expiring soon, Chiefs see a potential opening.
“He’s a key player there, and they might offer him a new contract,” a source revealed to The South African. “But Chiefs still have hope to land Basadien — even though going up against Sundowns financially won’t be easy.”
Plan C? Chiefs Eye Downs’ Own Options
If Sundowns do win the race for Basadien, Kaizer Chiefs might turn to one of their rivals’ own left backs. The likes of Terrence Mashego or Divine Lunga could become potential targets — especially if they slip down the pecking order at Chloorkop due to Basadien’s arrival.
