Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up for a hectic transfer period following yet another disappointing campaign. With the possibility of missing out on a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership, the club must secure a win in their final match this weekend to finish in the top half of the table.
According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have their sights set on South African defender Nkhanyiso Shinga, who currently plies his trade in Portugal.
“Our scouts have been searching extensively for players to strengthen key positions, and they have identified Nkhanyiso Shinga as a promising left-back option,” a source revealed. “Shinga has been playing in Portugal since 2018 for various clubs. Chiefs plan to invite him for trials soon to properly assess his fit before making a final decision.”
In addition to Shinga, Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with winger Asanele Velebayi and striker Fiston Mayele. Velebayi nearly signed for Chiefs during the last transfer window, but Cape Town Spurs refused to release their prized youngster. However, with Spurs recently relegated from the Motsepe Championship, Velebayi could finally make the move to Amakhosi.
Fiston Mayele is reportedly eager to leave Egyptian side Pyramids, and Chiefs are among the frontrunners to secure his signature. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are also competing to land the prolific forward.
The Pressure on Coach Nabi
As Chiefs prepare to invest heavily in new talent, all eyes are on head coach Nasreddine Nabi. While Nabi guided the club to its first trophy in a decade, his overall season performance was average. Failure to finish in the top eight could put his job in jeopardy, with the club potentially considering a change in leadership.
