Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lucas Ribeiro Costa is on the brink of securing the 2024/25 Betway Premiership top goal scorer title, with only a miracle standing in his way.
After Sundowns wrapped up their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Magesi FC on Sunday, Costa finished the season with 16 goals, placing him two goals ahead of his teammate Iqraam Rayners.
The next closest contenders are three players tied on eight goals, who would need to double their tally in their final matches to catch up to Costa.
Last season, Orlando Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa led the league with 16 goals, a mark that Costa has matched this year.
Once again, the prestigious PSL record of 25 goals, set by Zambia’s Collins Mbesuma during the 2004/05 season with Kaizer Chiefs, remains unchallenged, with no player coming close this season.
