Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi, a legend at Orlando Pirates, believes that Kaizer Chiefs should part ways with Nasreddine Nabi, despite his success in ending the club’s 10-year trophy drought.
Nabi, who took charge of Amakhosi in July last year, came into the role with high expectations. While he delivered silverware, his league results have been disappointing, and Kaizer Chiefs are now on the brink of missing out on a top-8 finish this season.
In an appearance on the Omniaudioafrica YouTube Channel, Vilakazi shared his thoughts on Nabi’s tenure at the club. He feels that Nabi has not done enough to show improvement in both the team’s performance and the players themselves.
Vilakazi: “Nabi Hasn’t Shown Enough”
Vilakazi criticized Nabi’s coaching style, stating, “Personally, I wouldn’t keep Nabi. As a coach, show us the type of football you want to play—it tells us who you are. Early on, it seemed like he wanted to build from the back, but when you’re trying something you’re not used to, it’s easy to become confused.”
He went on to express disappointment, saying, “What frustrates me is that I still don’t know what kind of football Nabi truly wants to play. The only change I saw that worked for Chiefs was when he moved Wandile Duba from the wing to striker.”
No Standout Players Under Nabi’s Coaching
Vilakazi went on to say that he hasn’t seen any player under Nabi’s coaching rise to the occasion, suggesting that no player has stood out enough to be considered for honors like Player of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, or Defender of the Season.
“For a team like Chiefs, it’s a must that by the end of the season, you have at least one player nominated for individual awards,” he said. “In my opinion, Nabi did a great job by ending the 10-year trophy drought, but after that, I think it’s time to say, ‘Thank you, Nabi,’” Vilakazi concluded.
Vilakazi’s sentiments are not unique, as there are growing calls from others to see Kaizer Chiefs move on from Nabi.
