Kaizer Chiefs’ ongoing search for a reliable striker has sparked plenty of debate — and South African legend Siyabonga Nomvethe believes he has the perfect solution.
Nomvethe has thrown his support behind former Golden Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa, suggesting that the Zimbabwean hitman could be exactly what Amakhosi need to sharpen their attack.
Mutizwa, 31, was recently released by Golden Arrows despite an impressive record of 63 goals and 23 assists in 231 appearances. His departure is believed to be linked to disciplinary issues, but Nomvethe believes Chiefs should look beyond that and consider what the player brings on the pitch.
“Mutizwa is a proven striker, and Kaizer Chiefs should definitely consider signing him,” Nomvethe told KickOff. “You can already see how much Arrows have struggled without him — his presence makes a difference.”
According to the former Bafana Bafana star, Mutizwa’s experience, composure in front of goal, and sharp instincts inside the box could help Chiefs rediscover their goal-scoring form.
“At 31, he’s at the peak of his career. Chiefs could benefit hugely from his ability to convert chances. Young players have energy, yes, but without experience, many chances go to waste.”
Nomvethe also stressed the importance of hard work and consistency at a club like Kaizer Chiefs.
“Wearing that badge comes with responsibility. Fans expect goals. Mutizwa has that hunger and goal-scoring instinct. He knows how to finish, he plays smart, and he’s not selfish in front of goal.”
With Kaizer Chiefs still trying to rebuild their attacking force, Mutizwa could be a gamble worth taking — especially with a strong endorsement from someone who knows the pressure of playing at the highest level.
