Despite delivering long-awaited silverware to Kaizer Chiefs, coach Nasreddine Nabi could still walk away at the end of the season β unless the club steps up to meet his demands.
Nabiβs Future Tied to More Than Just Trophies
According to iDiski Times via Sunday Times, the Chiefs hierarchy is holding off on a final decision about Nabiβs future until the end of the league campaign. While the recent Nedbank Cup triumph was a step in the right direction, the next two matches β against Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City β could influence what comes next.
Speaking on Extra-Time, Nabi didnβt shy away from questions about his future.
βIβm focused on the last two games β theyβre important,β he said. βI still have a contract here, and if the club wants to continue with me and give me what I need to succeed, thereβs no reason for me to leave. I respect this club and want to stay.β
Backing in the Transfer Market is Key
While his desire to remain at Naturena is genuine, the Tunisian tactician made it clear that his loyalty has a condition β support in the transfer window.
βI canβt honestly say Iβll stay if I donβt get the tools to build a winning team,β he explained. βThe club made promises, and Iβve made a promise to the fans β to create a team that competes for every trophy. Thatβs what itβll take for me to continue here. I donβt want to repeat this seasonβs challenges.β
Chiefs Eye Nigerian Midfield Maestro
In preparation for potential squad upgrades, Chiefs are reportedly targeting Nigerian midfielder Kingsley Michael. At just 25, he brings experience from top European leagues, having played in Italy for Bologna, Perugia, and Cremonese, before moving to Austria and now Tunisia with Monastir. Despite his club experience, he has just one cap for Nigeriaβs national team β but his versatility could be what Nabi needs if he stays on.
