Proteas star Kagiso Rabada has completed his one-month suspension after testing positive for a recreational drug and is now back in action. The City Press recently reported that Rabada tested positive for cocaine, specifically a metabolite called benzoylecgonine. Following this, he took part in an education and awareness program to help prevent future substance abuse.
Rabada has since been named in South Africa’s squad for the upcoming World Test Championship Final against Australia, set to take place from June 11-15 at Lord’s in London.
Rabada’s Role in the Proteas’ Plans
Speaking about Rabada’s inclusion in the squad, coach Shukri Conrad made it clear there was never any doubt the fast bowler would make the cut.
“The key thing is that KG is a top player wherever he plays in the world. He’s vital to us, and not for a second did I worry about whether he would be available,” said Conrad.
“For me, the focus was more on whether KG was alright, making sure he was in the right headspace. We care for all our players, and now that he’s served his sentence, all I care about is him delivering the performances we know he’s capable of.”
Conrad further explained that he’s been in constant communication with Rabada since the issue arose, adding, “I don’t see why it’s a big deal. I’m just thankful that the process followed was in line with world standards.”
