Whether or not Nasreddine Nabi will remain in charge of Kaizer Chiefs after this season is still up in the air.
The 59-year-old coach finally ended the club’s 10-year trophy drought, but his inconsistent league performance might be his undoing. Chiefs are currently sitting in ninth place on the Betway Premiership table. With just two games remaining, they must win both to break into the top 8 — a failure to do so could push management to reconsider his position ahead of next season.
Appearing on Extra Time, Nabi made it clear that his future with the club depends on one thing: full backing from management.
“I can’t honestly say I’ll stay if the club won’t give me the resources I need to succeed next season,” he said. “They made promises, and I’ve made promises to the fans. I want to build a winning team that competes for every trophy.”
He added that he’s not willing to repeat the same struggles he’s faced this season.
Despite the speculation, Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr shut down exit rumors on Monday morning. Speaking to Xoli Zondo on 5FM, he confirmed that Nabi is still under contract for next season.
“Coach still has another year with us,” Motaung Jr said. “But like we do every season, we’ll sit down and review everything. We’re aware the league results haven’t been consistent.”
Nabi and club management are scheduled to meet later this month to reflect on the season and decide on the way forward.
