Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., has shut down growing rumours that head coach Nasreddine Nabi will be shown the door despite his recent success with the club.
After leading the Amakhosi to a long-awaited Nedbank Cup victory — their first trophy in 10 years — many believed the Tunisian had secured his place at the helm. However, speculation began swirling this week, with reports suggesting that Chiefs had already decided not to retain him beyond the 2024/25 season.
Motaung Jr.: “Nabi Still Has a Contract”
Speaking in an interview on 5FM, Motaung Jr. cleared the air, confirming that Nabi remains under contract for another season.
“The coach has another year with us,” he said. “As with every season, we’ll sit down and assess everything, but he’s still very much part of our plans.”
He acknowledged the team’s inconsistent league performances but emphasized that the end-of-season review will follow normal club procedure — nothing unusual or urgent.
Cup Glory vs League Reality
While the Nedbank Cup triumph was a huge boost for the club, Nabi knows the job is far from done. Chiefs still have two league matches left and are fighting to secure a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership — something that could influence how fans and management view the season as a whole.
Nabi’s Mission: Restoring the Glory Days
Since arriving at Naturena, Nabi has spoken about his vision to bring Chiefs back to the top of South African football. The Nedbank Cup win was a step in that direction, but Motaung Jr. made it clear that the journey isn’t complete — and neither is the coach’s chapter at the club.
“We want to build on this success and not get distracted by speculation,” Motaung added.
