Kaizer Motaung Jr., the Sporting Director of Kaizer Chiefs, has responded to rumors that coach Nasreddine Nabi is set to be sacked.
Nabi, who joined Amakhosi at the start of the season, has faced a challenging campaign, particularly in the league. With just 30 points from 26 games, Chiefs find themselves in ninth place, having suffered 12 losses.
Despite the struggles in the league, Nabi led the team to victory in the Nedbank Cup, marking Amakhosi’s first cup win in 10 years.
Following the triumph, Sunday Times reported that Chiefs were planning to part ways with Nabi, despite his recent success. Nabi, however, has consistently stated that this season is about building for the future, with expectations that his second year will show improvement.
Kaizer Motaung Jr. addressed these reports, explaining that Nabi still has a year left on his contract. However, he emphasized that Chiefs would conduct a thorough review of the season before making any decisions.
βWeβll review the season as we do after every campaign,β Kaizer Jr. said during an interview on 5FM. βWe know results have been inconsistent, but weβve achieved a significant milestone with the Nedbank Cup. Weβre already planning for the future, whether with or without Nabi.β
He concluded, βThe priority now is to keep moving forward, unite the supporters, technical staff, and players, and focus on the mission ahead.β
