Orlando Pirates are set to field a refreshed midfield as they prepare to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final this Saturday in Durban.
Thalente Mbatha Returns After Suspension
Last week, it was reported that Orlando Pirates’ star midfielder, Thalente Mbatha, was suspended for the Golden Arrows match due to accumulating his fourth yellow card in the Soweto Derby against Chiefs. However, the KwaMashu-born player will be available for the Nedbank Cup final, scheduled for 15:30 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, bringing a much-needed boost to the team’s midfield.
Jose Riveiro’s Winning Formula Revealed by Assistant Coach
Orlando Pirates’ assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has shared insights into the success behind coach Jose Riveiro’s remarkable tenure at the club, which has seen him win five trophies in three seasons. Riveiro, who arrived in 2022, is already a legend at the club, securing multiple titles, including the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup in his first season, and adding two more MTN8 titles and another Nedbank Cup in the following years.
In an exclusive media chat before his planned departure in June, Ncikazi revealed that Riveiro’s influence goes beyond that of a typical coach. “Coach Riveiro is a unique individual; he’s not just a coach but more than that,” Ncikazi told FARPost. “He is highly professional and takes his role seriously. He doesn’t get overly happy or disappointed because he knows that where there are high expectations, there’s room for disappointment.”
Ncikazi continued, “This consistency helps the players. Whether we win or lose, Riveiro’s approach remains the same, and it helps our young players perform without fear.”
Riveiro’s meticulous approach to preparation was also highlighted by Ncikazi. “He’s very professional, prepares thoroughly, and analyses every game. He doesn’t rely on analysts; he does it himself, so he can build his own game plan,” he added.
