Mamelodi Sundowns took another giant step toward wrapping up the Betway Premiership title as they cruised to a commanding 3-0 win over Chippa United on Wednesday evening at Loftus Versfeld. The emphatic victory not only extended their lead over second-placed Orlando Pirates but also saw the Pretoria giants break their own long-standing PSL record.

Dominant Performance, Historic Result

Sundowns came out with intent from the first whistle, testing Chippa’s keeper Stanley Nwabali early on through a powerful strike from Teboho Mokoena. The pressure paid off in the 29th minute when Iqraam Rayners coolly slotted home from a pinpoint Khuliso Mudau assist to open the scoring.

Midfielder Jayden Adams doubled the lead just before halftime, and in the second half, Thapelo Maseko—coming off the bench—sealed the deal with the third goal.

Sundowns Rewrite the Record Books

The three-goal haul didn’t just secure another three points for Masandawana—it also saw them reach 57 league goals this season, breaking the Premier Soccer League record for most goals in a single campaign. The previous record of 56 goals, set by Sundowns themselves in the 2021/22 season, has now officially been surpassed.

Title Race Tilts Further in Sundowns’ Favour

With this win, Sundowns have further widened the points gap between themselves and Orlando Pirates, giving them more breathing room in what’s left of the season. As it stands, the Tshwane giants are not just chasing silverware—they’re setting new standards in South African football.
