Orlando Pirates appear ready to address their goal-scoring struggles by going global in search of attacking reinforcements.

With Mamelodi Sundowns cruising toward yet another DStv Premiership title, the Buccaneers look destined to settle for second place again β€” a frustratingly familiar position for the Soweto giants. But the club’s management seems determined to break the cycle.

Sources close to the team reveal that Pirates are actively scouting new strikers from outside South Africa, as they aim to revamp their front line ahead of the new season.

Four foreign forwards on Pirates’ radar

At the top of the list is DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele, currently leading the line for Egyptian giants Pyramids FC. Mayele made headlines after playing a key role in eliminating Pirates from the CAF Champions League β€” and now he could be wearing their jersey if talks materialize.

Another exciting name being linked to Mayfair is 26-year-old Brazilian forward Raphael Lopes. Reports suggest Pirates have the first option to sign the prolific South American attacker, whose stats have sparked serious interest.

The club is also evaluating Zambian talent Andrew Phiri, who recently underwent a trial with the team. The 23-year-old reportedly impressed the technical team, and a final decision is expected soon.

Ghanaian media, meanwhile, report that Pirates are tracking Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku, with talks possibly underway behind the scenes.
