Kaizer Chiefs have been advised to focus on smarter player recruitment in the upcoming transfer window if they want to seriously compete next season. Despite signing a number of players under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, the Soweto giants have struggled to maintain consistency, particularly in the Betway Premiership.

Their lack of depth and quality has made it difficult to match the standards set by league rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Although they’ve managed to reach the Nedbank Cup final—thanks to a surprise win over Sundowns in the semi-final—the season could still end in disappointment if they don’t overcome Pirates in the final.

Sports journalist Uche Anuma, speaking to Briefly News, offered insight into the positions the club needs to strengthen before next season kicks off.

“There’s clearly a lot going on at Kaizer Chiefs,” Anuma said. “But I’m giving Nabi the benefit of the doubt, as he’s made it clear that this is a transitional season. I think that was the understanding he had with management.”

Anuma believes the real judgment on Nabi’s capabilities will come after he’s had a full off-season to bring in his preferred players and shape the squad in his vision.

With expectations rising, Chiefs will need to act wisely in the transfer market—not just signing more players, but signing the right ones.
