Teko Modise reveals that he could have easily joined Kaizer Chiefs, a club he once dreamed of playing for.
KAIZER CHIEFS NEVER REACHED OUT TO TEKO MODISE
In a surprising revelation, Teko Modise shared that despite his deep admiration for Kaizer Chiefs, the club never pursued him, leaving him to build his legendary career elsewhere. Known as one of the greatest players in PSL history, Modise rose to prominence at Orlando Pirates and later at Mamelodi Sundowns, but it could have been a different story.
Modise explained on the Izinja zeGame podcast that after his first season in the National First Division, Chiefs showed interest. He recalled how Bobby Motaung personally reached out, but despite his readiness to join, Chiefs never followed through with a move.
“I knew the number 10 jersey at Chiefs was waiting for me, and I believed I could do better than the players at the time,” Modise said. “It was my dream to play for Chiefs, especially since my idol, Doctor Khumalo, played there. The first club I got introduced to as a kid was Kaizer Chiefs, and I didn’t care about the money—I just wanted to wear that jersey.”
His love for Chiefs and the missed opportunity ultimately led Modise to become disillusioned with the club, as Chiefs’ lack of action on his potential move caused him to lose interest.
