Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are both aiming for an all-South African CAF Champions League final in 2025.

Tough Road Ahead for Pirates and Sundowns
Orlando Pirates face a challenging task in the second leg of their semi-final against Egypt’s Pyramids after a 0-0 draw in the first leg. A win could see them advance to the final, where either Mamelodi Sundowns or defending champions Al Ahly would be waiting. Sundowns and Al Ahly play their second leg on Friday, 25 April, at 18:00, with Pirates’ clash against Pyramids set for 20:00 on the same day. The potential for an all-South African final is on the horizon, with a $4 million (R75 million) prize at stake for the winner—up from $2.5 million in 2022.

Mofokeng’s Stellar Season and Future Uncertainty
Relebohile Mofokeng has been a standout performer for Orlando Pirates this season, with an impressive 41 appearances, 10 goals, and 13 assists across all competitions. At just 19, he’s quickly become one of the team’s most vital players. However, with such talent, Mofokeng’s future likely lies in a wealthier league abroad, raising questions about whether the club has a succession plan in place. While Pirates have found another promising teenager, he’s still some time away from making a major impact at the senior level.
