Kaizer Chiefs Lose Two Stars Before Gallants Clash – But Is It a Blessing in Disguise?

Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a setback going into their next Betway Premiership fixture against Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium this Saturday. Attacking duo Gaston Sirino and Pule Mmodi are both ruled out due to suspension after each picked up their fourth yellow card of the season during the goalless draw with Chippa United.

Selection Shake-Up for Coach Nabi

With two key forwards sidelined, Coach Nasreddine Nabi will have to reshuffle his attacking setup. Sirino has been a consistent playmaker this season, tallying five assists and a goal in just 16 matches, while Mmodi, despite not scoring yet, has chipped in with an assist and always brings energy in the final third.

But there’s a silver lining to this short-term blow.

Fresh Legs for the Soweto Derby

While Sirino and Mmodi will miss the Gallants clash, they’ll return just in time for the massive Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates on May 3. With both players rested and free from bookings, Chiefs will have a fresh attacking force for one of the biggest fixtures on the local football calendar.

“It’s a blessing in disguise,” a source close to the club revealed. “Better to miss this one and be 100% for Pirates.”

Both Camps Missing Key Players

Marumo Gallants are also affected — they’ll be without their captain Edgar Manaka, who’s suspended for this clash. Chiefs previously edged Gallants 2-1 in their first-round meeting, and they’ll be aiming for a repeat result despite missing firepower upfront.

Kick-off is set for 15:00 on Saturday, and with big names out, it could be the perfect stage for fringe players to step up and make their mark.
