Orlando Pirates head coach José Riveiro is turning heads across the continent, with Egyptian giants Zamalek SC showing serious interest in landing his signature. However, the Spanish tactician isn’t in a rush to leave Soweto just yet.

Reports from Egyptian outlet Almasryalyoum reveal that Zamalek president Hussein Labib has already approached Riveiro’s representatives. The club is hoping to secure him as their next head coach for the 2025/26 season, anticipating the exit of their current manager, José Peseiro.

But Riveiro isn’t ready to entertain any offers while he’s still in the thick of things with the Buccaneers. The 48-year-old reportedly asked Zamalek to hold off discussions until he wraps up his commitments with Pirates.

And that request makes sense—he’s got a lot on his plate. Riveiro is currently steering Orlando Pirates through one of their most critical periods in recent memory. The team is preparing for a must-win CAF Champions League semi-final second leg against Pyramids FC, while also chasing glory in the Nedbank Cup and keeping their Betway Premiership title hopes alive.

Zamalek, however, are pushing for a quick decision. They want everything finalized before the current season ends to ensure a clean slate and fresh start for the next campaign.

Riveiro’s rapid rise in African football has earned him admiration for his tactical approach and calm leadership style. While interest from a club like Zamalek is no small feat, Pirates fans can rest easy for now—he’s staying focused on the mission at hand.
