It might raise eyebrows, but Manqoba Mngqithi being linked with Orlando Pirates should come as no surprise. The man knows how to winβ€”he’s lifted league titles, conquered the CAF Champions League, and he’s no stranger to the black-and-white camp either.

Pirates and SuperSport Circling

With Jose Riveiro expected to step down at the end of the season, and Gavin Hunt having already parted ways with SuperSport United, Soccer Laduma reports that both clubs are seriously considering Mngqithi. While he’s currently finding his groove at Golden Arrows, the pull of a bigger stage in Gauteng is hard to resist.

Interestingly, Pirates are also said to be in quiet talks with Rulani Mokwenaβ€”Mngqithi’s former coaching partner at Sundowns. Mokwena has confirmed his exit from Wydad Casablanca and could be primed for a return to Soweto.

For now, though, all eyes are on Friday, April 25, when the Buccaneers take on Pyramids FC in Cairo in the decisive second leg of the CAF Champions League semifinal. Kick-off is set for 20:00 at the 30 June Stadium.
