Kaizer Chiefs fans have a reason to celebrate as the Amakhosi are on the cusp of ending their decade-long trophy drought, having qualified for the Nedbank Cup final.

This impressive run in the competition not only gives Chiefs a shot at silverware but also opens the door to continental football for next season. But, have they already secured a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup? Let’s dive into the details.

Have Kaizer Chiefs qualified for the 2025/26 Confederation Cup?

While some reports have prematurely claimed that Chiefs are set to participate in next year’s Confederation Cup, the truth is, it’s not official just yet.

At present, the Amakhosi’s participation in the competition remains highly likely, but it isn’t confirmed. To clarify, only two South African teams can qualify for the Confederation Cup.

If Kaizer Chiefs win the Nedbank Cup, they’ll be guaranteed a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. However, things get a bit more complicated if they finish as runners-up.

If Stellenbosch FC wins this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, they’ll claim the first South African spot in next year’s competition. Then, depending on the final standings in the Betway Premiership, the third-place finisher (currently Sekhukhune United) could edge out Chiefs for the remaining spot.

But, if Stellies fail to win the Confederation Cup, Chiefs will join the third-placed team in next season’s tournament.

Chiefs seal their spot in the Nedbank Cup final

Kaizer Chiefs sealed their place in the final with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite Sundowns taking the lead with a stunning Teboho Mokoena free-kick just before halftime, Chiefs leveled the game thanks to Wandile Duba’s quick thinking in the 57th minute.

Ashley Du Preez then provided the dramatic finish in the 89th minute, securing a thrilling victory for the Amakhosi.

Next, they’ll face Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final on 10 May 2025 at Moses Mabhida Stadium, with another highly anticipated Soweto Derby set to take place just a week earlier in the league on 3 May at FNB Stadium.
