There’s an unfolding story at Chloorkop that seems to be flying under the radar — and it involves none other than seasoned defender Mosa Lebusa. With his contract nearing its end, and no concrete update from the club, questions are mounting around his future at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Lebusa, 32, has been a key figure for the Brazilians since his arrival in 2018. Yet, as things stand, his days in the famous yellow jersey could be numbered. Despite being offered a two-year extension earlier, the situation has become murky, especially after the arrival of defenders Keanu Cupido and Lucas Suárez.

What’s interesting is that Lebusa now has the freedom to sign a pre-contract elsewhere — but he’s still holding out hope for a stay at Sundowns. According to sources close to the situation, both parties have mutual respect and a desire to continue, yet talks have unexpectedly stalled.

“He wants to stay, and the club respects what he’s done for them,” said a source. “He’s loyal, consistent, and even had an extension on the table at some point. But for some reason, negotiations have hit a wall — just when things seemed close.”

Despite the uncertainty, Lebusa remains a solid performer. This season alone, he’s featured in 22 matches across all competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the league. His ability to slot in at both centre-back and left-back makes him a reliable option, especially as Sundowns continue to juggle multiple tournaments.

Meanwhile, the pressure is mounting on Suárez, whose recent mistakes — including a costly turnover against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-final — have sparked frustration among fans. Calls are growing louder for Lebusa’s return to the starting XI, especially with the stakes so high.

More than just minutes on the pitch, Lebusa has his eyes on the bigger prize — representing Sundowns at the FIFA Club World Cup. But unless the club acts quickly, that dream might slip away. And with time ticking, both Lebusa and those around him are starting to lose patience.
