Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing to part ways with midfielder George Matlou at the end of the season, with his contract expiring in June.
Matlou Set to Leave Chiefs After Less Than Three Years
According to SABC Sport, the 26-year-old Soweto-born midfielder, who joined Chiefs from Swallows in July 2022 for around R4 million, is likely to leave the club on a free transfer. If no new agreement is reached, Matlou will be free to negotiate with other clubs starting in June.

Bit-Part Player at Chiefs
Although Matlou has shown promise, he has struggled to secure a regular first-team spot under multiple managers. Over the course of nearly two and a half years, he has made just 34 appearances in all competitions. If no contract extension is agreed upon, Matlou will be available to sign a pre-contract with any club of his choice.
Kaizer Chiefs Injury Update
Ahead of their match against Cape Town City on Wednesday, Chiefs are dealing with a number of injury concerns. Rushwin Dortley is a significant doubt for the game, while Wandile Duba is close to making his return after a long injury layoff.
“[Edson] Castillo is back with the team but is still working his way back to full fitness,” said Amakhosi coach Nabi. “Happy [Mashiane] remains out, and we’ll assess Dortley in the next two days. Lilepo has been experiencing discomfort, and we’ll evaluate him today. OX [Mthethwa] could potentially play a few minutes but not a full match.”
Morris and Zwane Still Out
Samkelo Zwane and Tashreeq Morris will not feature against Cape Town City. According to Nabi, Duba, who recently resumed training with the team, is the only player close to a return, but Zwane and Morris will be sidelined for a longer period.
