Kaizer Chiefs’ current goalkeepers may want to take note after hearing these words.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ GOALKEEPING WOES
Thomas Sweswe, former Amakhosi defender, believes the club’s goalkeeping issues are a significant concern. Reflecting on the departure of Itumeleng Khune, Sweswe told FARPost that it was more than just losing a player—it was a blow to the team’s entire goalkeeping structure. “They [club management] should have kept him. Khune’s departure really hurt the team, especially in the goalkeeper department. He would have been there to push the others,” Sweswe explained.

“A strong defense needs a reliable goalkeeper. I worked with Khune, and despite his age, I know what he would have brought to the team. You need someone with authority who can communicate well with the defenders,” the former Kaizer Chiefs captain added.

“Khune was that figure, and I believe his presence could have made a difference. Right now, I don’t see a dependable goalkeeper in the team. Chiefs used to be known for having the best goalkeeper in the league, but that legacy seems to have faded. Maybe this is an area that still requires attention. However, I do think the coach [Nasreddine Nabi] is doing well. I like his character and how straightforward he is with everything he says,” concluded Sweswe.

NKOSINGIPHILE NGCOBO’S NEW ROLE
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has stirred up excitement among the fans with his recent changes. It’s been clear that the 25-year-old Nkosiniphile Ngcobo has struggled to make the number 10 role his own, but Nabi has now moved him into a deeper role as a playmaker, either as a number six or number eight.

“We made the change because we felt that against Magesi, they were defending too deep, and we needed more technical quality to link midfield and attack,” Nabi explained to FARPost. “Sometimes you have to take risks to get the results you want, and that’s what we did. But it did create some imbalance; we were a bit too offensive. Still, we took the risk to try and get the results.”

Nabi added, “We believe Ngcobo is very technical and intelligent, but we also need him to be more physical in his play. When you’re in the middle of the park, there’s less space, and opponents press quickly. We need him to bring that physical edge to his game.”
