Orlando Pirates are determined to make up for their lack of signings in the January transfer window.
Currently sitting second on the league table, the Buccaneers are still chasing Mamelodi Sundowns, who are closing in on becoming the dominant force after defeating Jose Riveiro’s side 4-1 in February. Despite Sundowns’ surprising draw with Golden Arrows, Pirates still hold onto hope, but with a daunting 16-point gap and four games in hand, they have a lot of work ahead of them.
Transfer Targets
Pirates are actively searching for wing-backs and are now shifting their focus from former target Fawaaz Basadien to Thabo Moloisane, a teammate of Basadien at Stellenbosch.
A source close to the club revealed, βPirates are keen on Thabo Moloisane as their top defensive target, and theyβre preparing to make an offer for him. They want to strengthen their central defense ahead of next season, particularly as they aim to compete in various competitions, including the CAF Champions League. Moloisane has made significant progress as a player, and his experience in African competitions with Stellenbosch is seen as an advantage for Pirates. The club is also looking to strengthen both the right-back and left-back positions.β
Another player on Pirates’ radar is 27-year-old center-back Olivier Toure of Maroons. Toure has gained valuable experience in the CAF Confederation Cup, starting in most of Cape Winelands’ matches this season.
βToure is still on Piratesβ radar,β the source continued. βItβs just a matter of when theyβll formalize their interest and make an offer. Heβs been one of the leagueβs most reliable and consistent defenders, and his performances have attracted a lot of attention, with growing interest in his services.β
