Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has suggested that the Moroccan league (Botola Pro) may be more challenging than the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Nabi, referencing his former colleague Rulani Mokwena, who previously coached Mamelodi Sundowns, mentioned that Mokwena found the Botola Pro League to be technically and tactically superior to the PSL.
“The two leagues are different. Rulani Mokwena himself mentioned that he feels the Moroccan league is a bit tougher and more tactical and technical,” Nabi commented following Chiefs’ 1-0 victory over Magesi on Tuesday.
This season marks Nabi’s first in the PSL, and he has managed to improve Kaizer Chiefs slightly compared to the previous campaign, with the team currently sitting eighth on the league table after two matches.
“We are creating chances, and big clubs like Kaizer Chiefs need big players. We work hard every day to improve and score more goals,” Nabi shared after the win.
He also acknowledged that although the team dominates possession at times, they struggle to capitalize on opportunities due to the players’ profiles, particularly in finishing.
Nabi continued, “For example, a player like Dove, who plays as a left-back, brings different qualities compared to someone who can go all the way and make crosses. We need to adjust our team and our style of play accordingly.”
Before joining the PSL, Nabi found success coaching in Tanzania and Morocco, though he is still in search of his first trophy in South Africa after eight months with Chiefs.
