Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly planning to offer defender Happy Mashiane a contract extension, despite his limited playing time in recent seasons.
The 27-year-old has been with Amakhosi for six years but struggled to secure consistent minutes under coach Nasreddine Nabi. However, following injuries to Edmilson Dove, Bradley Cross, and the departure of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Mashiane has seized his opportunity to feature in the team and has impressed Nabi.
According to SoccerLaduma, Mashiane is likely to remain with the club next season and could be rewarded with a new contract.
A source close to the club revealed that the defender’s future looks promising, with Nabi placing trust in him for the left-back position. “The coach is happy with him, which has boosted Mashiane’s confidence,” the source said. “His current contract runs until June 2026, so he now has hope that he won’t be loaned out or released anytime soon.”
Mashiane enjoyed a strong 2020/21 season under Gavin Hunt, helping Chiefs reach the CAF Champions League final and playing over 30 matches. Under Arthur Zwane, he featured occasionally but never regained his best form. Over the past two seasons, Mashiane has only played 12 matches for the club, and it remains to be seen if he will get more regular game time under Nabi for the rest of the season.
