The Springboks have built a reputation for having incredible depth, with world-class talent across all positions. Rassie Erasmus has crafted a squad so strong that he could field two competitive teams capable of challenging the All Blacks.
Erasmus is known for his strategic unpredictability, often leaving opposition, fans, and pundits guessing when it comes to his team selections. Last year alone, the World Cup-winning coach rotated fifty players over thirteen games, giving numerous debuts and even bringing back former stars like Aphelele Fassi, who hadnβt played for the Springboks in two years.
With the 2027 World Cup on the horizon, Erasmus is using the next couple of years to evaluate all his options, providing opportunities for new debutants. One such player to watch is young Sharks sensation Jurenzo Julius, who could soon join the ranks of the Springboks.
A future star? Known as βThe Boogieman,β the 20-year-old Namibian-born Paul Roos centre has already been turning heads and was recently called up to a Springboks camp. If he continues his impressive form, he could find himself in Erasmusβ plans as a future Springbok by the time the 2027 World Cup rolls around.
Keep an eye on this rising star β βThe Boogiemanβ is coming.
Springboks’ 2025 camp As the team gears up for the 2025 season, Erasmus confirmed that this campβs focus will be on laying a solid foundation for what promises to be a tough campaign ahead.
βMost of these players have been part of our structures at some point in the past seven years, and their experience will be key in guiding the younger players. Some have already been exposed to our systems, so they understand how we operate,β Erasmus explained.
βIβm also excited to see the new players who have made an impact at the franchise level. This is a great opportunity for them to experience the high standards we expect from them at the top level.β
