Mamelodi Sundowns legend, Manqoba “Shakes” Ngwenya, has predicted that Nasreddine Nabi’s time as Kaizer Chiefs coach will come to an end next month. Ngwenya expects Sundowns to deliver a heavy defeat to Chiefs when the two teams meet on 1 March, following their victories in both previous encounters this season.
Speaking on the SoccerBeat podcast, Shakes pointed out that Sundowns often struggle with motivation against smaller teams in the PSL. Despite their surprise 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy last week, Sundowns bounced back with a 3-1 win over Marumo Gallants. Ngwenya believes Sundowns will be fully motivated for their clash with Chiefs next month.
“The motivation won’t be lacking against Chiefs,” Ngwenya said. “They will be ready for that game, but it’s the games like Galaxy where they really need to find that same level of intensity.”
Ngwenya further predicted that Nabi’s job could be on the line if Chiefs lose for the third time to Sundowns, which he believes will lead to Nabi’s dismissal. “The cooking will be over by the 1st of March. It will be the end of the road for him. Sundowns supporters want nothing more than to see Chiefs lose to them,” Ngwenya added.
Former Sundowns and Orlando Pirates striker, Kermit Erasmus, also weighed in, stating that it will be a tough few weeks ahead for Nabi. After a disheartening loss to SuperSport United, Erasmus believes that the upcoming clash with Sundowns could determine whether Nabi keeps his job.
With the highly anticipated match coming up at Loftus Versfeld, all eyes will be on how Chiefs perform against the league leaders.
