Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was sidelined during their midweek match against Marumo Gallants due to injury.
The Bafana Bafana captain has dealt with more injuries in the past year than he has throughout most of his career. On Wednesday night, Sundowns called upon Denis Onyango, who played a key role in their 3-1 win over Gallants at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
With Sundowns competing in three different tournaments, having Williams back in goal is crucial. However, the good news is that his injury is minor, and he should return to action shortly.
After the game, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso discussed the challenges posed by Onyango’s red card.
βRed cards always affect us because you never know what can happen in the next game,β Cardoso said, according to FARPost.
βRonwen is our first-choice keeper, and Denis has been performing well. He made a fantastic save tonight, especially from a header that could have been dangerous.β
Cardoso added, βI believe Ronwen will recover from the minor issue he faced and will be ready for the next match.β
While Williams might miss their upcoming game against TS Galaxy, he is expected to be fit for the clash with Kaizer Chiefs in two weeks. Sundowns also have backup options in Jody February, Sanele Tshabalala, and Reyaad Pieterse if needed.
