Both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were reportedly interested in signing two stars from Polokwane City during the January transfer window. However, for different reasons, both clubs missed out on the duo, though they may return for them at the end of the season.

Chiefs and Pirates eye Matuludi
It was widely anticipated that Pirates would secure deals for Polokwane’s Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi in January, but nothing materialized. Chiefs also showed interest in the players, with reports suggesting that Amakhosi made an attempt to sign Appollis, but their bid was rejected. With the double deal looking unlikely, Pirates focused on a move for Matuludi alone. Unfortunately, the talented right-back suffered a season-ending injury, which ruled out any potential transfer. This could open the door for Chiefs to pursue him in the upcoming transfer window.

Injury halts January move
According to The Citizen, a bidding war between Chiefs and Pirates for Matuludi is expected in the next transfer window. The player, who suffered torn ligaments in his knee during a match against SuperSport United on January 17, will need to recover from surgery before being considered for any move. With Matuludi’s injury preventing him from making a move in January, both clubs will likely keep tabs on his recovery, though he may not be fit in time for pre-season, making a potential move complicated without a full medical clearance.
