Gavin Hunt was in high spirits on Tuesday evening after watching his team dominate Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 at FNB Stadium.

Despite the rainy conditions, the match was an exciting spectacle from the start. SuperSport United took an early lead with a goal from former Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic. Kaizer Chiefs equalized in the 30th minute thanks to their new signing, Makabi Lilepo. However, just two minutes later, another ex-Chiefs player, Christian Saile, restored SuperSport’s lead.

In the second half, SuperSport added two more goals, handing Chiefs their sixth league defeat of the season. After the match, Hunt was modest about the victory.

“Well, it’s three points. We didn’t win a cup, we didn’t win anything tonight, we just got three points. We’ve got to work our way out of the difficult situation we’re in. We know we haven’t done well in the league, but it’s not for lack of effort or commitment,” Hunt said.

He continued, “In football, the first sign of trouble is when the attitude drops, but the attitude has been fine. The players have been good, and sometimes you don’t get the results you deserve.”

Reflecting on past encounters with Chiefs, Hunt noted, “When we played Chiefs in the cup, we should’ve won that game. And in the next league game, they should have beaten us. That’s just football sometimes. We have to keep grinding and making chances, trying to get the right combinations. We change the team every week because of the issues we’ve faced.”

With this victory, SuperSport United have now taken six points off Kaizer Chiefs this season. Despite the impressive win, they remain in 12th place on the log, though they are now out of the relegation zone. Hunt believes his squad can compete moving forward.

“This team is much more settled in the last three or four games,” Hunt concluded.
