Springbok legend Eben Etzebeth has been sidelined since suffering a concussion against Exeter Chiefs on December 7, and his recovery is taking longer than expected.

According to the Sharks, Etzebeth, 33, has experienced a setback with his concussion symptoms, delaying his return to action. The club has made it clear that player welfare remains their top priority, and he is under the care of concussion specialists. He will only return once they confirm that the injury has fully resolved.

Meanwhile, Siya Kolisi, Etzebeth’s teammate for both club and country, is focused on securing his place in the Springbok squad for the 2027 World Cup, rather than stressing over his captaincy role. “I just want to make the team,” Kolisi stated. “Whether I’m captain or not is not in my control.”

Former Springbok player Corne Krige believes Kolisi’s leadership is crucial for the team’s success. He remarked that as long as Kolisi maintains his current form and avoids injury, he should continue as captain at least until the next World Cup.

Should the Springboks prioritize Kolisi’s leadership moving forward?
