Kaizer Chiefs have experienced some ups and downs in the transfer market recently, and their 2023 signing of Mduduzi Mdantsane has proven to be a major disappointment.
Mdantsane Loaned to Richards Bay After Struggled Chiefs Stint
Mduduzi Mdantsane, the 30-year-old playmaker, will spend the remainder of the 2024/25 season on loan at Richards Bay after a lackluster spell at Kaizer Chiefs. Since joining in July 2023, the former Cape Town City star made just 16 appearances, contributing two assists and failing to score a single goal. The club confirmed the move on their official website, stating:
“Kaizer Chiefs have agreed to a loan deal that sees midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane join KwaZulu-Natal side Richards Bay for the rest of the season.”

What Went Wrong for Mdantsane at Chiefs?
Mdantsane was once highly valued, with Transfermarkt estimating his market worth at R22.8 million in February 2023. However, his time at Chiefs has been marred by injuries, including a serious one from a car accident. Even when fit, his performances failed to meet the club’s high expectations. Despite costing around R13 million, the playmaker has not lived up to the hype, and it remains uncertain whether Chiefs can recover any of that investment after his loan spell.
What’s Next for Kaizer Chiefs?
Kaizer Chiefs will face Chippa United in a Round of 16 clash at home in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, February 15 at 18:00. Following that, their next Betway Premiership match is against Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United on Tuesday, February 18 at 19:30.
